Usually the cable input is connected to the antenna preamp. When it is OFF the outside cable jack is connected to the tuner input on the tv. When you turn on the antenna amp it connects the antenna to the tuner input.
You would just have to switch your TV input to tuner and that is it. That is how ours is set up.
