Which 211 to get

So I picked up a new in box pathway x2 for $160 just now (Hooray)!

Now I need to buy a 211 to go with it. What's the agreement on the best and why?

The K is larger and runs hotter than the Z but if you need a coax output or like the built-in OTA tuner option (only necessary if you will also use it as a DVR) then the Z is the better choice.
If you plan to connect the receiver directly to a TV with the HDMI then the Z or the Wally is still a pretty good choice.

yea my problem is space. we more than likely wont use the DVR as we are not full timers and weekend warriors.

The OTA tuner is not a deal breaker. The main issue is space. The cubby for electronics on the passport is TINY and finding a creative way to mount a reciever is gonna be hard.

  • We went with the K and the OF A tuner lets you record on one tuner while watching the other.
  • I have a K and a Z, hence the X2. I like the K better but think it's the older of the two models?

    You mean the Wally?

The Wally has the same Inputs and Outputs as a 211z, but the Wally uses the Hopper 3 interface . . . and the Wally looks cool.

However, for features, the 211k is the one to get for a simple two-TV RV setup.

I prefer the VIP211K over the 'Z'. The 'K' has a built in OTA tuner that's an extra cost option on the 'Z', and also has an RF output that can be used to mirror to a second TV that the 'Z' doesn't have.

One more benefit of the K model is that it has component video outputs as well as HDMI. Some RVs are wire just for component video.

Lastly, I have seen forum discussions indications that initializing the ViP211Z has been difficult compared to the ViP211K.
