Which browser with Windows 8

I have a new computer that runs Windows 8, which I expect to upgrade to 8.1. My tech guy recommends Chrome, but I really dislike the fact that there is no sidebar I can dock on the left of the browser. I've been using IE Explorer but am not crazy about that. I used Firefox before but have been told there are security problems with the new version. What are your suggestions? I know I have to make my own decision, but what factors do I need to take into consideration.

Thanks again.

My 8.1 box came with MSIE and Chrome.

    I installed Firefox.
  • I have been running Windows 8.1 since it was available and FOR ME it works just fine and have never had an issue with it. My main screen is the desktop and use the new interface simply as a place to start programs.

I don't run a lot of third party software.

In regards to OP's question, I run the current version of IE and it seems to work just fine.
  • Chrome is my default browser because I use so many Google services - gmail, picasa, blogger, etc. With one chrome login I'm logged into everything.
I also use IE any time I have an issue with Chrome - everything has issues occasionally. I also use IE whenever I want to go to a website without being logged in to my google account.
I think 8.1 is a wonderful upgrade to Windows 8. It adds just a couple of small things (X to close a window, Power button to shut down, boot directly to desktop) which take away most all of the frustration with the new interface.

Firefox for me. I've heard good stuff about Chrome too but don't see the need for it.

What security problems? Mozilla, the developers, pay among the highest hacker bounties to discover critical security flaws in Firefox.

Don't believe everything you're told without doing some independent research.
  • Been using 8.1 extensively for almost 2 weeks now.

I read all the complaints, comments, etc, and almost went with a windows 7.

Glad I went with an 8.1. I am an inbetweener, not a geek, but not a complete beginner.

The learning curve was easier than I thought it would be with the 8.1 and the flexibility is great. It works as 8.1 and as 7 combined to a certain degree.

I use 8.1 with Chrome, and the Chrome extensions. Progress isn't always bad.

I have yet to see or find a perfect world in anything.

    just mho.
  • I've upgraded several machines to 8.1 It works beautifully and is easy to use.

Just use Firefox. There are security issues with everything, and I mean everything. That's why software gets patches. And Mozilla patches FF fairly often.

For additional security no what OS and browser you use, look at using Open DNS and/or Bluecoat K9. These are for both MAC and Windows.
  • x2 on the Win 8.1 . Staying w/8.0 for now. We use Firefox although we have all of the browsers loaded. We just like Firefox and have had no security issues. but we run Avast whenever the Laptop is on.
  • A few months ago I upgraded to 8.1. Big mistake. Stay with windows 8 until they fix it!
