My ipod "died" this morning and it would have cost more to fix it than to replace it. Since our computer crashed and burned earlier this week and we had to replace it, I had been trying to figure out how I could get my music from the ipod to iTunes. That seems to be pretty much impossible but luckily a lot of the music I had on iTunes came from cds I have in my possession.Since I don't want to spend $200 to get a new ipod I thought I'd go with one of the Samsung players. This may be a foolish question, but other than iTunes, what other music software do you recommend that would enable me to sync with my new mp3 player? Obviously, I also want to download cds into the program as well as purchased music.Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Media Monkey Gold would be worht looking into.

If you have a smartphone it can double as your MP3 player. In iTunes did you have iCloud enabled? If so your music may be available in the cloud already. I use Google Play Music player in the browser, and on an Android device for playback. Plays back both music from the local disk and cloud.

Actually getting your music from your iPad back to a new computer is quite easy had it not died. I transferred all my music from an iPod i had loaded from my desktop to a new laptop. Much of that music came from CDs. And it all transferred to the laptop. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact steps now. But I just googled it and came up with how to do it.Also have it all on my iPhone.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried to download Media Monkey Gold but my security program wouldn't let me. I'm even having issues with Windows Media Player, but expect those to be resolved when I take my computer in to my local tech guy to correct some other issues. I have my music on my iphone but while the music downloaded, it my playlists didn't come with it. Those are important to me because I have different music for different activities (e.g. exercise, relaxing, etc. I just don't want to spend another $200 on an ipod. One other question--how do you "back up" your music on the computer? Just curious. Thanks. MA

My smartphone has Google Music. I download everything from iTunes to Google Music and now I don't need a second device. I always have all of my music with me when I have my phone.

I have a new Windows computer so for now I'm going to stay away from Apple. I think I'm going to buy a new MP3 player--probably a Samsung--and see what software it comes with. I'll also try out Media Monkey Gold. It's just going to take some work rebuilding my playlists but that can't be helped. Luckily a majority of the music I have is on CDs and the few I'm missing should be found on good old Amazon.com. Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll just be glad when I finally get all my "stuff" on to my new computer.

I am a music nut with about 120 GB of music. I have Media Monkey Gold, used Windows Media player and iTiunes over the past ten years.
I would say stick with iTunes and get a new iPod.
Apple is discontinuing the hard drive iPods but I would get one or a solid state iPod, rebuild your library (keep it backed up on a external drive) and enjoy.

There are several programs that can take your music on a ipod and transfer them to a computer but since thats a prime way to steal music they aren't mainstream Question appears moot now with your dead ipod ( Backup Backup Backup )
Try Doubletwist as a music sync program I haven't used but have heard from others its good.
