Why are GPS units so much trouble.
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 5 or so years ago that worked most of the time,but occasionally went beserk.On our Christmas trip to South Carolina,it routed us one way going south and another way going north....

Paper ROAD ATLAS IS your friend. No reboots, no recalculating, no arguments, no recharging, no power cords, no suction cup mounts, no glaring screens in the dark, works 24/7 day and night.
For "planning" we use MAPQUEST which gives you printable step by step directions including turns and even landmarks along with mileage.
A GPS is nothing more than a yuppy gadget, it DOES NOT replace paper maps OR your brains.
