Just to be clear, Windows 7 Starter has no enterprise network connectivity (join windows domains, etc). An external adapter won't solve that kind of issue. It should help with what you are experiencing though. They do come in very small sizes, which may not be a good thing as far as an antenna is concerned, but you could leave it plugged in all the time without worry. I have a couple of the white Netgear models listed on this page. They have worked well, but get pretty hot. If I was getting an adapter like these, I would also purchase a long USB cable which would allow me to place it in the ideal location. My trailer is aluminum and I don't always get good reception in it. I can usually resolve that if I place a wifi adapter near a window.
