Wifi hotspot

We travel 2 or 3 months a year in our RV and would like wifi available for internet and to stream Netflix movies. What is our best choice without getting locked into a long contract. I will appreciate any feedback.

  • Hi,

50 gigs is going to cost you an arm and a leg on most any cellular device. There used to be a reseller who offered 20 gigs for about $90 per month.

There are a few companies that offer unlimited cellular data, but 50 gigs would violate the "fair use" part of the contract and they would most probably disconnect you.
  • We use about 50GB per month and I don't consider us to be particularly heavy users though we are watching 3 Netflix only series at the moment.
  • RoyB, X2. Get a blu-Ray for movies. We used the 10G prepay last time we were out, used a lot of it, but movies are out. Video clips on new sites will eat up you data plan if you don't watch out for them.

We get excellent secured WIFI HOTSPOT service with our VERIZON MIFI account. This provides us with up to five WIFI connections for our WIFI enabled devices... We only have the 3GB DATAPLAN however and this is not enough GBs to do anything but checking emails, checking in with the kids, paying some bills, and just the minimum surfing of the Internet.

To down stream movies however you will need alot more GB DATAPLAN. Even only having a 20GB DATAPLAN is not really large enough to do serious down-streaming of movies.

I would stay with the VERIZON NETWORK however for best coverage.

I would say if you mixed NETFLIX with OTA PUBLIC BROADCAST TV from local towns you should get your fill of movies and perhaps a 20GB DATAPLAN would suffice.

  • I use a Verizon Jetpack on a pay-by-the-month plan. Only pay for months we use it.
