This is the truth. I have a printer that I can connect directly to but then I have to be off of the other networks and hence the internet. It even shows up when looking for Wi-Fi signals as it's own network. Also though as others have said if you hook your printer through your router (Wi-Fi style or Ethernet cable style) then you can stay connected to your router and hence your Wi-Fi and also still print which is usually easier.
