I use a password. Every time I shut down the computer and start it up I have to enter the password. If the computer is in sleep mode when I wake it up I don't have to enter a password. It goes to the screen I was last using.
I never used it without a password so don't know how to stop lock screen. - tenbearExplorer

This will affect all accounts on this PC.
Must be administrator to do this.
Bring up charms
Select settings
At bottom of screen select change pc settings
On left select accounts
On left select sign-in options
Last item on right side "Password policy"
click Change
Should change to "password is not required when waking this pc from sleep"
Exit screen - this should now wake up to the last screen that you used.

This sounds like what I want.
How do I "Bring up charms"? - LScamperExplorerThis will affect all accounts on this PC.

- RoyBExplorer III just started my WIN 8.1 machine this week and I found somewhere in the setups to change the LOCK SCREEN to any of photos I had available. I really hadn't though about disabling it altogether.
I think all I did was right click the screen and selected PERSONALIZE...
I also changed the WAKE-UP SETTING where if ON AC POWER I selected NEVER turn OFF... On BATTERY POWER I think I have it set to go to sleep after 30 minutes...
GOOGLE SAYS to do this
"To change your lock screen picture for WIN 8.1
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. ...
Tap or click PC and devices, then tap or click Lock screen.
More items..."
My settings task bar is at the BOTTOM of the right corner screen
Right Click on LOCK SCREEN PHOTO then select BROWSE to select another photo.
My setup is using two 24-inch monitors and always keep my laptop lid closed. I would also be interested in finding a way to turn my laptop ON without rasing the lid and pushing the ON-OFF button.
I miss my older M90 DELL WORKSTATION that ran with the DOCKING STATION. Never had to ever open the lip of the M90...

I haven't tried this, but this purports to do the job.
Windows 8+ Lock Screen
First I tried Method 1. Windows said it couldn't find "gpedit.msc".
Then I tried Method 2 and after some messing around it seems to work. It seems I still have to press the on button to restart the computer.
I'll use it for a while and see if I like the way it's running now.
Thanks AsheGuy, and to the others, for the help. - gboppExplorerI just deal with the screen. It's easier. :)
- rvtenExplorerdelete site did not work.
Google Disabke Win 8.1 Lovk Screen
I set my comp. to open in the old windows screen
Simple to switch back and forth.
