I have a laptop with window 7 and i try to install window 10 on it but Microsoft don't recognize my laptop.I try Microsoft to help but theirs webside is no help.Anybody know how can I do it.I try to download the internet explorer 11 but I can't get the serv pack1.The laptop is Toshiba 670 window 7 is install new because the hard drive was replace. The wi fi drop all the time not on the other laptop.

WHOA....don't do it! I've heard nothing but bad about 10. Our friend's son, a computer genius at 14, had his laptop crash when loading 10. He spent 3 days on the phone with Microsoft....no luck yet. I've also heard other stories. You best stay with 7.

W10 is great.I have had it on my laptop for almost 30 days now.We are waiting for 3 others to update. Will not go back.I am letting MS built it with the downloads vs the other way.(Microsoft’s new Windows 10 Media Creation tool, which allows you to burn the operating system’s install media to a DVD or USB drive).Questions.. Have you had the laptop since new?Was the W7 factory installed or did someone else install it?It could be improperly registered.Do you ave the automatic updates turned on?It must be up to date with all updates before it will start the downloads.You can go to MS then search for W7 SP1 and download it.Without SP1 it will not check for compatibility.

W10 works fine.Sounds like a "less than legit" copy of Windows 7.

What laptop?Windows update tells me that right now my 5 yr old Thinkpad needs some drivers before it can be updated, They'll let me know when it's ready.

Mine did the same thing. First go to your manufactures website and see if they have drivers for Windows 10 for your laptop. If they do then it is possible to force Windows 7 to download the Windows 10 update without waiting. Microsoft is staggering updates to people so their servers aren't overloaded. Thats the biggest reason for the message that they'll let you know when its ready. In my case I did have to search out the video card driver manually as the Windows 10 update didn't do that.I bought a 2nd cheap hard drive, mirrored my Windows 7 to it, then did the update to 10. That allows me to change back to 7 with ease if I decide to.

can you tell us how do we create the bootable image?

to be specific, i've created win 8.1 system image backups for each of our laptops on an external HDD using the win 8.1 control panel. also created the 512 mb USB recovery stick for each computer.

is this what you mean by bootable image, or is there a way to put the recovery stick and system image together on a stick that will boot a laptop to the image?

And the lesson is to not be an early adopter of new OS's? :h

But if someone doesn't do it then the rest of us won't benefit. :B

Try again in 9 months with a bootable image backup.

Many of the Start buttons, including the Settings button, and many programs were not responding (opening). With my BIL's help, I was able to revert back to Win 7. My BIL thinks my Lenovo may be missing some drivers that were causing Win 10 problems in my machine.

I can't stress enough how relieved I am that I was able to get Win 7 back.

What settings are you referring to? You can get to the control panel and other settings by right clicking the Start Button.

I downloaded Win 10 this morning and it messed up my computer pretty bad. Many of the programs and buttons won't work, including the Settings button. I can't revert back to Win 7 without the Settings buttons.

Any help from the experts here is greatly appreciated.

The newer updates to 7/8 do indeed increase data sent to MS. However, the EULA does not grant MS rights to it. A user may disregard those updates as they choose. Not so with Windows 10. The EULA specifically grants MS rights that do not exist in 7/8.

Read the all EULA's and compare. Windows 10 goes far beyond that of 7/8 as far as what data is sent to MS and what MS's rights are to them. MS has become an OPT-OUT OS rather than OPT-IN as it was. Somewhat similar to Apple and Google but to a greater extent. Some of it can be turned off but MS's EULA makes it clear that even when turned off personal data will be shared with MS in some instances without notifying the user. Again, if some don't mind MS having such access then great. I'm not one of those!

Thanks.. I never had that problem with Win 10 (yet) but one of my computers did it with 8.1` all the time.. Of course I upgraded that box .... Yesterday.

I installed W10 earlier this month and so far am satisfied with it. There was a snafu in the beginning when my screen would flash on and off constantly after logging in. Had me ready to revert back to 8.1. The problem was fixed by disabling Microsoft error reporting service. I can't say the new OS is a lot better than 8.1, which I liked,but I am satisfied with it thus far.
