Window 8.1 WIFI Issue

We have a laptop that came with Windows 8 which upgraded to Windows 8.1 about two weeks ago after getting several messages to upgrade for free about every 5th time I powered up the laptop. Since that time using the same park WIFI we have been we are now started getting drops and limited access. After doing some research today it appears this is a bug with Windows 8.1 that Microsoft does not acknowledge. Just wondered if anyone else has had this issue after upgrading to Windows 8.1? I think I have the issue resolved (knocking on wood as I type) by rolling the WIFI card adapter back to the old driver.
  • I'm also facing similar issues like this, now i'm going to re install windows 8 Os for my lpatop. I think this is the only way to get back my wifi driver. we aware of windows 8.1 latest update
  • I have not seen a similar issue on my HP either. Worked OK on Win 8 and now works OK on Win 8.1. Sorry to hear about the problem but you might also want to check with the campground to see if they are aware of the problem or if they happened to have changed anything as well.
  • I wonder if the issue is with a particular wifi adapter chipset? I have a Toshiba laptop, Acer netbook and MS tablet all running Win 8.1 with no wifi issues.
  • Sometimes with my DW's Dell, I open Network and Sharing Center/change adapter properties and then right-click on "Disable" the wifi adapter. I, then, Enable it and everything works fine once again. Unfortunately, about half the time the Disable command won't work and that is when I know it is time to re-boot.
  • From what I have found researching this issue it is not isolated to one or two brands of machines but several. It also appears it happens when upgrading from 8 to 8.1 so those machines that come with 8.1 loaded on them seem to be fine. Since rolling back to the old driver for the WIFI card it is working much better but once yesterday evening I did see the WIFI go to "Limited". I stopped the connection and restarted and it was fine the rest of the evening.
  • You are not alone with respect to what you are observing. My wife's Dell laptop has the latest drivers for its wifi and still periodically has to be rebooted because it simply will no longer connect. It's another one of the great features brought to you by Windows 8.1; you can only hope that Windows 9 will be released soon.
  • I have both a DELL Ultrabook and ASUS Netbook w/WIN 8.1 and have no issues with WiFi at all. Is this an issue with Windows 8.1 supplied WiFi adapter driver? Or the driver from the manufacturer?
  • The Wifi on my 8.1 surface works great. I don't know how to fix your problem though. Let us know what works b/c I'm planning to upgrade my laptop from win 7 to 8.1 soon and don't want the same problem.

My laptop was Win-8.1 out of the box (Much to the surprise of Toshiba).

I have heard that in some cases you need to update with Wi-Fi driver.. This is a HARDWARE issue though, not a windows issue, so contact the computer manufacturer to see if they have an update for the driver.

That said.. I hook this puppy up by Blue Wire when I can (What's blue wire,, My cat-5 cable is blue)

Actually I have told it to "Forget" the house Wi-Fi, I use kind of a Rube Goldburg hookup.. Wi-Fi "Modem" (Linksys WGA54G Wireless game adapter) ON Roof (or flag pole or picnic table or.. wherever works best) Picks up park Wi-Fi. Feeds house router (A belkin) which Wi-Fi's to my phone, printer, tablet and hard wires to my xp machines, this laptop (Either way) and my Replay TV units. That way I can toss Video about like no tomorrow (Never sees the Linksys) moving it from Replay DVR to File Server (XP-Main) to Laptop to external USB stick, stream shows back and forth, command programs to record, check the program guide,, the to-do list, and all the other features.

Or, if the Linksys/Belkin loose lock, I unplug and go Wi-Fi direct from park to laptop.
  • I have not upgraded to 8.1, but thanks for posting.

I really don't care for Windows 8 at all. So have ignored the 8.1 notice.
