You are free to decide what you like/dislike but IMO, if you know how to use Win 7, you know how to use Win 8 since Win 8 is essentially Win 7 with an optional, alternative interface tacked on.
All other things being equal -- W8 steals a lot of my data allowance, just updating some things I never use. And, worse, it continually distorts my Word docs ... Have no idea why, and I shut off all I could find.
But have talked to other 'tech folks' that say the same thing (about the data robbing) But most have unlimited data - and that's not applicable to us.
All in all, the W7 makes all that go away - and because we don't use all the tech, it doesn't matter to us. Essentially, we use photos, Word, email, web search. So, nothing tech in the W8 helps us, and some of it 'harms' us. Seems a no-brainer.
What I end up with now - after a new HD with W7 on the W8 laptop -- three laptops (one each, and a back-up) with W7 OS, and a separate Hard Drive with a complete W8, which we can also use as a back-up HD. And, if we ever need it, stick it back in the laptop.
Also have a step by step instruction to reactivate the W8 if we put it back in the original LT. Works for us and covers all the bases.
Ended up spending $80 for the new HD and install W7 and a few upgrades on the LT.
