windows 10 and photo viewing

Try setting the camera at M3 Normal or M3 Fine.

Someone must have changed your cameras settings.....By default, most Canon PowerShot cameras are set to "L" resolution, or 3,264-by-2,448 pixels. This size is the largest setting and is intended for creating high-quality, print photos. If your plan is to use photos for documentation or uploading to the Web, then reduce the resolution. Smaller images are easier to transfer, quicker to upload and email and help conserve space on digital memory cards.

You can use photo editing software to resize the pics YOU HAVE ALREADY TAKEN (to increase pixel size to say 1024x768) but since the pic size is so very small now, you may have poor results when you resize.

I have the Canon Power Shot SX50HS. It has 50x Zoom and I think 12 MP. So if I understand you correctly I can't do anything for the photos I have already downloaded but I can fix the future photos by setting the camera to the right setting, is that right?

Seems your digital camera is rendering pic's in 480x480 pixel size.
In you digital camera settings (cell phone pic settings) and adjust settings there in regard to image output quality/size. Do this and your pics will be larger pixel size.

Tell me the exact digital camera or cell phone you are using to take pics and I can give instr. on setting pixel size for photos you take...

I use Picasa Photo Viewer application. If I open a photo I just have to roll the mouse wheel to largerize or smallerize the photo I'm viewing.

W10 Photos works fine as well but the mouse wheel scrolls to the next photo - you have to click the +/- icons to largerize and smallerize. There may be a way to configure that.
