When you have capped data that when exceeded the $ comes out of your pocket then you'll have a better appreciation of my concern. Automatic/forced updates for a few MB for critical updates would be acceptable. But since MS can't write secure software the typical updates are 100-300MB several times a month.
Home users with DSL etc may not notice the downloads and I certainly agree that that forced updates will help the overall situation. I'm also aware that there is some leeway on the downloads for wireless users and I need to better understand this.
One thing I really liked about W8.1 was the much faster boot time and it's been very stable for DW. From the reports W10 is similar. Our second PC is W7 so I'll potentially have 2x mega byte uncontrolled downloads of the MS software and that is a concern for me and others from some posts.
I do follow several boards and apparently most W10 installs are going well. BTW that's about 3GB right? Maybe I'll wait until I can get it on a CD. I'll certainly wait before any possible upgrade so that most of the transition problems are resolved (OS, apps, drivers, etc).
