After upgrading one of my three laptops (the only one with 8.1), I feel the same as before upgrading. If you're stuck with a win 8/8.1 machine, the upgrade to 10 is worth it. If you're on win 7 and happy, there is little reason to upgrade, at least until the free year nears its end. The best thing about 10 is that with some user modifications & option settings, it comes close to looking & acting like win 7. I still prefer the old Start/All Programs menu, but I can live with the expanded Start screen of 10.
I am especially happy that 10 allows you to ignore its new browser, Edge, and continue using IE11. If 10 forced me to use Edge, I'd be looking into how to go back to 7.
