Personally, I don't feel "stuck with Win 8.1" since it's a perfectly fine OS. I have 2 machines running Win 8.1 and don't see ANY advantage to moving them to Win 10 (I avoid the word "upgrade" since it's not really an upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10, more of a side step). My main desktop is running Win 7 and, just as I saw no advantage to moving it to Win 8, I see no advantage to moving it to Win 10.
Win 10 is also a perfectly fine OS, it's just that there isn't any reason I can see to move either a Win 7 or a Win 8.1 machine to it. The next new machine I build or buy will most likely have Win 10 on it but my other machines will stick with their current OS.
I did move 1 machine to Win 10. An old Acer Aspire One netbook I had laying around that wasn't being used. I took it from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 and it runs fine, no issues. This netbook originally came with XP Home but has had Win 7 Pro & Win 8.1 Pro on it previously and now has Win 10 Pro on it. Not bad for a little machine with an N270 Atom processor and 1.5GB of RAM!
