I upgraded my Win 8.1 laptop to Win 10 a week ago. So far I like it much better than 8.1. It is close to Win 7 in appearance and function. On the first few boots with Win 10 it booted very quickly. Win 8.1 booted quickly as well. I started setting settings and I tried Cortina and after that booting the laptop became considerably slower - a result of the permissions needed for Cortina that allowed Win 10 to start reporting my entire life back to Microsoft. I shut off Cortina and put the security settings back to preventing this all - and now it boots quickly again. There is also a downside in that the only way to prevent Win 10 Home from automatically updating is to set the wifi connection to a managed connection. If connected to a wired Ethernet this does not seem possible - which is not a problem with the wifi laptop but would not want this going on with a desktop wired to my network. Win 10 versions above Home have a no auto update setting - so what MS is giving away free is set up to be wide open to MS. If you install or have installed and have not already done so, go into privacy settings and make sure what it is reporting to Microsoft is what you don't mind being sent out of your computer. Even with this - it always seems to have network activity going on. I left the laptop running on my desk the other night and without using it and the screen showed activity the whole time.
All and all, though, it is a lot better than Win 8.1.
