- sue_tExplorerAt work they provided me with a new computer with Windows 10. Having to use Windows 10 there has confirmed that I will stick with Win7 Ultimate on my two home desktops. Our systems tech is also sticking with Win7 on his personal computer.
The main reason is I don't like all the changes that take away my ability to control my computer and that the computer assumes it knows what I want to do next and automates stuff that I'm quite comfy doing on my own. I'm an MS-DOS elder and have worked with every version of Windows (except 8) so I don't like having a system that wants to take over. - jerem0621Explorer III'm on a 3 year old Core i5 17 inch Acer running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have no plans on moving this fantastic machine to Windows 10. I do plan to upgrade the ram though. Not that I do not like Windows 10, it's just that Windows 7 meets all my needs today.
I played around with Linux and went back to regular Windows. I still have my 6 year old Mac too.
I am getting ready to build a powerful desktop computer and have resigned myself that it will run Windows 10.
Thanks!
Jeremiah - dryflyExplorerI have 2 desktops and 1 laptop running Win 10 successfully. Only bug is a power management issue on a 5 yr old AMD motherboard, but I can live with it.
With that said, I'm still eyeing Linux for the future. - drsteveExplorer

At work, I am in charge of setting up highly integrated PCs in embedded high tech devices. A PC that decides to update, reboot or update then quit working AT THE WRONG TIME could have potential consequences..
At home, I highly customize my PCs with software and hardware that I have bought over the years.. All of the software, there is NO "direct fit replacement".. Even a lot of the older hardware I have, there isn't a lot out there to FULLY REPLACE it.
With MS at the helm they have to SOLE power to tell you that you NEED to replace the PC when ever they feel like it..
The path IS clear in what MS is wanting to do, as of right now, MS and Intel ARE moving to the UEFI "secure boot" platform as the FUTURE.
What this means is eventually, all Intel chipsets will only have UEFI secure boot option, no "legacy" boot option will be available..
It IS getting hard now days to find new system boards that have legacy boot option.
Win10 at this time supports UEFI AND LEGACY BOOT, down the road it WILL be ONLY UEFI.
Additionally, MS has made it extremely clear that they ARE no longer supporting a lot of older legacy PC hardware going forward. Older Processors and chipsets support WILL be eventually REMOVED from Win10..
What does that mean?
Simple, once MS stops supporting legacy boot (non UEFI), ALL NON UEFI system boards most likely no longer be able to boot to Win10 (remember, MS is no longer planning to release any other "version" but to "refresh" your PC with Creator Updates)..
I can tell you this, UEFI secure boot is buggy and has created a lot of hassles for companies like mine that build products with Embeded PCs..
Then apparently, the future is now. My five year old laptop uses UEFI.
For 95+ percent of users, the stuff you're worried about is irrelevant. - austinjennaExplorer

You misunderstand.
The have the POTENTIAL to brick ANY PC with Win10, I never said they HAVE done such thing.
MS does make it clear that they can DISABLE AND/OR REMOVE ANY OR ALL "FEATURES", software, or disable incompatible HARDWARE as they see fit.
MS AND INTEL have made it very well know they WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT OLDER "LEGACY" TECHNOLOGY IN FUTURE RELEASES.
Your PC as of right now IS "older Technology" even if you bought it yesterday whether you like it or not.
Potentially this means that even thought there may not be any problem with your PC right now, ANY future "Creators Update" may not support your hardware and result in either your PC not being updated further (I HIGHLY doubt this since they have FORCED "updates")OR your PC failing to boot to Win10 or a big message telling you your hardware is out of date and Win10 is no longer supported by your PC and won't boot..
They HAVE the power to do this and gullible people HAVE let this come to pass.
Geez, paranoid a bit I guess. I suppose that whatever phone you are using can be bricked as well, at any time but yet you probably still use it.
The reason for 'forced' updates are for the folks that simply refuse to update and are 10 versions behind and complain when they get a virus.
Sorry I cant live my life being worried about stupid things.

Can you point to a PC that has been bricked by a Win 10 update?

He said they can, whether they have isn’t really the point.
This is like phones and tablets and their nagging updates. Apple’s iOS11 bricks all 32-bit apps whether they’re something you use or not.
Not my style either. My home computers are still win7, like the ones at my work. - drsteveExplorer
