Windows 10

Wow, some insane posts I see here. So now XP is more secure than 10 and Microsoft now installs Adware, bloatware and bricks your PC.:S

So.. I take it that you are OK with MS randomly downloading AND installing Adware, bloatware and perhaps if you are lucky an update that does not brick your PC?

The recent “Win10 nag updates” that MS dumped onto MILLIONS of Win7 and Win8 PCs disguised as “updates” should be a very loud and clear warning that MS HAS the potential to overstep some boundaries with forced updates.

With this change MS NOW has a very captive “audience” which has the possibility of being ABUSED. Imagine how much money MS could generate in “ad” revenue if they sold the update process as a revolving paid ad “service” That YOU CANNOT REFUSE??? They COULD do this and you would get to enjoy every day getting ad nags from toothpaste, diapers, to feminine products, to meds or even your favorite “ed” med..

This forced update also VIOLATES a very important principle of “security” which is to NOT ALLOW REMOTE ACCESS to your PC. All it would take is for MS update channel to be spoofed or corrupted and the whole house of cards will come crashing down.

You now have a greater chance of getting unwanted stuff than if you used XP or any of the older OS’s!

Just because a OS is “14 yrs old” does not mean that it cannot SAFELY function, there are tens of thousands of embedded DOS, 95,98,2000,Vista and yes XP systems STILL in use today quietly performing the task they were setup for and some in life or death situations WHILE BEING CONNECTED TO SERVERS AND THE INTERENET.

Imagine some day when you have a pacemaker and the tech is accessing your pacemaker with a Win10 PC to check and make changes to the program to YOUR life support and the PC suddenly shuts down and reboots due to a forced update corrupting YOUR pacemaker.. Not a far-fetched scenario, pacemakers ARE remotely checked and reprogrammed.

A real life scenerio.. We had hired a new employee, shortly after he was hired he started to be noticably late every week.

After a few months of excuses of the alarm not waking him up I mentioned that perhaps he should buy a new alarm.. I asked what he was using..

wait for it..

HIS WINDOWS PHONE!

What we determined was his Windows phone would reboot during the night after getting updates. When that happend it TURNED OFF HIS ALARM!

My concern is not the one time W10 download which I can control, instead it's the unrestricted W10 update downloads that will occur for the life of W10.

There are also posts suggesting MS may make W10 available on a flash drive and that is another step in the right direction.

To each his own, I've got 3 XP systems, and like a good '57 Chevy I'm keeping them. Enjoy all of those government and corporate backdoors in Win 10, along with the updates you're not allowed to refuse. Does anybody wonder why it's not only free, but that Microsoft is aggressively pushing everybody to take it?

Want to know what data Win 10 collects? The License Agreement says to look in the Privacy Statement, which says to click a link to the Win 10 product page to find out, and I couldn't find a darn thing about it there.

same here. I'm happy to sit it out and see what develops. two of my buddies are eager to be pathfinders and it'll be interesting to see what they find.

If you are running Windows 7 or 8.1, and don't want the Win 10 download, HERE, it tells about a specific Windows update, KB3035583, which you can uninstall if it is already on your system. I don't want Win 10, so I never even let it download.
