Windows 10

My next laptop will be a Mac.

Let 2 new Win 10 computers take the big November update. Both had problems. The laptop needed to delete one of the security updates so the WIFI and network would work. The desktop had to remove it completely for the LAN to work again.
What a disgrace.

Beware Win10 can be a real problem with older software and computers--- even when it says it is compatible. What ever your computer was delivered with, stay with it. Windows 10 offers limited advantages and is not worth the headache of finding drivers to run older hardware-- if they exist at all. Not to mention to find out some of your applications will not ever start in Win10 environment.
Linux may be a better option over Windows10.

I'm back to XP never got past Win 7 which died on one laptop or 8.1 which is on another. It took MS over two decades to get XP working right, originally started life as a NT business plate form, so we'll wait a long while for them to get their act together. May just move over to some form of Linux.

Which is exactly what I have been doing for months now and intend to continue: Just ignoring the offers to upgrade and doing my W7 updates as normal.....well, except that I have to go looking for the updates now.

I do not think there is such a thing as a "forced upgrade". Reports of that have been rare and probably indicate a misunderstanding on the part of the user.

I suggest you check out a program call GWX Control Panel. This program will allow you to get update to Win 7, but not download Win 10.

I plan to avoid it altogether.

Sounds like you may have had all of the win 10 files downloaded to you and when you turned it back on maybe it was trying to install all of the files.

We had to wait a proetty long time time for WIN10 to install the first time aorund... took over three hours as i recall but we always had a gauge screen showing the progress to keep us from turning it off until it finished I guess...

Even doing that we got to a point tha it would not go past so thats when we reinstalled WIN 8.1 after that it all started all over again and finally got past th ponit it failed before and finished up the install. Drink alot of coffee watching my four laptops (WIN 8.1 and WIN 7) get WIN 10 installed on them.

It's pretty common that after upgrading to Windows 10, you may need to do a clean reinstall. Windows 10 registers itself right to your computer so you don't need the serial number/software key. But you do need to make or acquire Windows 10 media, either on a burned DVD or a USB flash drive. Of course this also requires backing up all your files and hopefully you have the media for any other programs you use.
