Win7 Pro here - and will never update. Works fine - does everything I need. I shut off auto-updates, and it tells me when update is available. I ignore all updates. I run a couple free virus AVG programs
In the past, years ago, each time I did an update the PC started "malfunctioning'" until I got a friend or two to get it working right (I suck at tech) ... Now, I never update, and never will. Everything works fine most of the time. Occasionally a small glitch - usually something I do to it trying to operate something different that normal - and easily fixed.
If I ever change out from Win7 ... I will probably go to a Mac for all of the above reasons -- no virus, no forced changes, no spying (?) - but every one I talk to that goes from PC to Mac never goes back ... Expensive transition tho, so will wait until this one dies.
I do have one PC Win7 pro that NEVER has and never will go online and I use only for my photo production. It works perfectly and never has issues.
MY tech stupid self believes web traffic screws up PC's ... and it's nothing inherent in PC design that causes problems.
