Set your connection to metered to delay the updates and also its very easy to turn off all the other stuff. Its been discussed a million times on how to do it.
Yes, I'm aware of that. However, I sometimes tether my Android phone to my laptop using a USB cable, and from my research, it is my understanding that Win 10 will only allow WiFi connections as metered and will NOT allow a USB cabled connection to be classified as metered. Further, in my case, our laptop is exclusively used tethered when camping. It really gets no other usage, and Win 10 is going to download those updates sometime, thus I would be at risk of it downloading updates while tethered.
We have Win 10 on our two desktops, and so far it is working fine -- thus I am not averse to using the OS. It was safer to just keep the "camping laptop" on Win 8.1. To each his own ...
