I first came across that law when we purchased a new electric water heater for the Milkhouse on the farm back when I was in high school a long time ago.. Turns out the heater was a discontinued line from the company my Mother worked for.

But they still carried parts.. Because of that law.

Which is how I know about it.

Mother.. By the way, was the head of accounting for that firm.. And in all of the state of Michigan, at that time, There was ONE corporation with a woman head of accounting.. (And something like half a dozen surrounding states as well).. She was one exceptional woman.

IT's a ten-years law, and a ten-year license. But, all PC/LT's will not magically cease running at that magic ten-year point. MS will stop (or at least slow down) support and assistance then, maybe, or change its mind.

PC/LT's will continue running along as if ten-years means nothing. Reload, reboot, recover, etc., and until something fails, you can continue to run W7, or XP, or whatever. Some new programs won't run on it, some data won't open, some games wan't play, but the OS will run until it dies. And, you won't be able to buy that OS in a new Pc/LT. But the W7 life will go on until all the parts wear out. That's what tech-stupid Monkey thinks, anyway.

It may or may not.. However in the case of XP there is a little known law that has to be understood.... You see. They are REQUIRED to provide a period of support. The person who said six to seven years for Win-7.. Either knows the law or hit on it by accident.

I predict that on Jan 3, 2020, somebody who downgraded to win 7 will post here whining that they have lost MS support. :s

Windows 8 is a disaster public acceptance wise. It's not like MicroSoft has made mistakes in the past ? Is it?

If you run a business a $100 smart phone bill is a bargain for the freedom that it buys you. My smart phone gives me many extra hours with my family and allows my Dr. customers connect with me when they need to outside normal business hours. That translates into happy customers and money in my pocket.

Granted our office has only had Win 8 for about 45 days but we have yet to find a single issue nor have we had anyone who has expressed disgust with it. Matter of fact I have had two people that said that they decided to update their home systems because of their positive work experience. Go figure, embracing change.

When you have your own business a Smartphone is one of the few cases it makes sense. Your right. A data plan to check your Facebook page doesn't.
