I have been using Windows 8, since it's inception. I have the Professional Version, and have had very few issues with it.
I used Microsoft Word for many years, and find it to be a stable platform for just about everything written. I recently opted to go with Office 365, which gives you access to the whole Office Suite of programs, for a mere $99.00/ year. The support site is great, as are the techs that will help you over any rough spots with any of the programs.
Word 2002 may have it's problems, now, with the advancements in Windows 8, but Microsoft is always cognizant of any conflicts, and goes through great pains to make older versions of it's programs, such as Word, compatible with the new platform.
The whole set of programs in the Office Suite are integrated well, so they work nearly effortlessly with one another. The only drawback is the learning curve of the Windows 8 platform, and the new Office Suites. I am sticking with Microsoft, since they are still the leader in the industry, and are progressive and proactive. Not something I find with the so-called free software that is offered out there.
