Want to bump this info in too once again ... because a lot of RV'ers use Hotspots.
Regardless of W8 'look' like W7, in th background, W8 still runs everything, and the big deal with that - W8 keeps updating and operating some items - and using up bandwidth. It adds up over time -
The first month we noticed it, used 9g instead of our normal (five years) of 5g, so once we shut some of it off, it went down to 6g, and it looks like now, after W7 reinstall last week, will stay under our 5g again (One week, 1.1g).
I'm not tech enough to know why it does it - W8 probably updating ads and news etc, and maybe apps and other uses. But, it does use data a lot, and some of us on limited hotspot should be aware of it, so it doesn't 'spend your data' ... we don't mind paying for what we use, but the 'other uses' - not reasonable to pay for stuff we don't know about or want. In my mind, that's an intrusion.
