If I had only one computer and needed to rely on it working 100% of the time and wanted to spend the least amount of time and money dealing with spyware and anti virus software and registry cleaners or researching problems on forums, I would go with an Apple laptop running their modern operating system OS X.
Apple is cheaper in the long run to own and operate and they are grief free compared to any Windows computer. If I did my a Windows computer it would be from a company that provided excellent tech support and their is only one such computer company, Lenovo. While not as good as Apple, Lenovo tech support is based in the USA by Americans who grew up speaking US English (as is true for Apple's tech support people).
Lenovo and HP do the best job of providing updates to the BIOS and various drivers over time with computers they sell. With Windows computers this can make all the difference in the world in keeping the machines running and out of the landfills.
That said, why are 95% of PCs in world non-Apple?
I think most of us were exposed to PCs at work, while Apple seemed more keen on schools and some niche markets.
If things had been different ane the Win-Apl % was more 50-50, the OP might be wondering 'W8 or OS X'.
