Winegard carry out with HR44-500

Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I missed if it was.

I'd like to get the Winegard Carryout to use with my existing HR44-500 from my home. I've read some things certain dishes that feed certain kinds of boxes not working together which is my fear.

If that box won't work, what kind of box should I add to my account that definitely will work? Thanks for your help in advance!
  • If you are wanting HD quality tv with the HR44, then you'd be better off with the new Winegard Traveler that eliminates the need for the swm8 addition. The new Winegard Traveler (check out their site) is about $1,800 retail but will work great. Locks on automatically and quick and stores with the push of a button. I have the older 'multi-switch' 3005 Traveler and am installed the SWM8 and larger power inserter so I can use the HR44 and all of the attributes of recording up to 5 shows at the same time and the HUGE hard drive capabilities.

Or maybe the Carryout just isn't what I need?
I have the RF Mogul SWM dish in the RV. Just push a button and it deploys and locks on to the birds. Do you want or have HD TV in the rig or planning for a upgrade?

I like being able to record 5 shows and it's a nice backup if we park in the trees. I've thought about carrying a SWM portable but it's bulky, etc, maybe someday.

The full array dish has another benefit - range. I get the San Francisco HD locals in Brookings, OR at 300 miles. And I get the San Francisco SD locals in Long Beach, WA at 600 miles. I suspect the carryout has less range but that may not be important.
  • Travelers should also be aware that DTV transmits locals in some areas in HD only, no SD. We wanted to watch the Olympics in central OR and DTV finally admitted we would need HD. That was the tripping point to replace the SD only in motion dish on the rig. Never did understand why the prior owner had a SD dish and HD TV.

There are reports on these boards of two other similar areas with HD locals only.
