My SK1000 is obsolete and becoming more so. I wouldn't invest a dime in it. It doesn't fully support all the satellites or the newest Hopper.
That would be quite a trick for the SK1000 to be able to acquire both DISH's Western and Eastern Arc sats. Even DISH's fixed tripod dishes can't do this w/o setting up two, separate dishes.
Also, a standard SK1000 can be modified to support the new Hopper 3s.
EA would require an LNB assembly replacement and new aiming code. The first is easy. The second probably would be too but Winegard won't do it.
I'd heard there was a DIY DPH mod around but Winegard denied it. Thanks.
They've told me the same thing several times but I've crossed paths with many others who want it. Several more areas went EA only in August.
The current setup can receive any of the EA satellites by itself. Unless their aiming code is horribly written they must have a subroutine to peak skew. It seems like an easy upgrade. I don't understand why they are so resistant. Perhaps there is another product on the drawing board and they want the SK-1000 to become more obsolete?
