This particular case, the OP has a DirecTV antenna and is trying to lock onto a Dish satellite.
Otherwise, the most likely reason would be a blockage of some kind or if you are traveling to the extremes of the satellite footprint where have one LNB focused directly to one particular satellite might give better results. It might also be able to be used for the reception of some FTA programming available in special instances. Mostly, it is an unused option.
