Winegard Trav'ler

hi, I have the winegard trav'ler model SK-SWM3. It is currently set up with "Direct" TV satellite. This of course is meant for the United States. Being Canadian and travelling to Mexico (where one may receive Canadian broadcast signals) I would like to know if this winegard will be compatible with a "Shaw Direct" dish, and or what components would have to be changed and where they might be available. I have seen the dish part for sale at camping world for about $250 dollars. Thanks very much. Tom ( a service provider here said I would need a whole new system and suggested "Explorer" at a cost of 3200 dollars installed.)
  • Shaw Direct broadcasts on Ku band from three communications satellites, Anik F1R and Anik G1 at 107.3°W, and Anik F2 at 111.1°W

DirecTV Travler receives signals from the 99, 101 and 103
    Or the Trav'ler SK-3005 can manual be set to get the 61, 72, 82, 91, 101, 110, 119, 129 and 148.

Get a Shaw Trav'ler dish for CND $413 with $22 shipping

No, it is not compatible with Shaw. You would need a completely new mount.
  • Thanks so much for your answers. If I understand, the entire system must be replaced, dish, mounting rotating device, and everything else inside? Nothing in the system I have is compatible for Shaw direct.
  • The antenna base plate attached to the roof, the control cable that runs from the Trav'ler to the controller and any existing coax cables will be reused. Otherwise, everything else needs to be replaced. At least you won't have to unseal any of the roof connections. Just lift the current Trav'ler off the base, put the new one in its place. Attach the base ring that came with the Shaw unit to the DTV unit you remove and list the antenna for sale. You should be able to get $500-$800 USD for the DTV version.
  • I think this is the site the poster may have been referring to. I see a conversion from one to another but not to Shaw Direct. There is a shaw replacement kit LMB but I don't know what that is.
