Wineguard Rayzar Amplified Antenna

We have for the first time put a TV in the RV. The antenna that is on the RV is the crank up type that will need to have new gears put into and a replacement head. It's connection to the TV is not convenient to where the TV is now. For about the same price I could purchase a Wineguard Rayzar Amplified Antenna . Does anyone have any experience with this antenna? Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.
  • TV stations do not change their power output. Any power changes would require approval from the FCC. Weather and time of day are the major reasons for changes in signal level. You are seeing a better signal in the evening because signals travel further at night.
  • I full time so I am all over the place and always having to set the antenna all over again for the new place I park.

What I found out, after spending hours on end tweaking and turning and tweaking and turning the antenna to get stations in without breaking up every 2 seconds 'because I think it's MY antenna, is..........

If you are parked long enough in one spot you will realize that some of these stations only broadcast at full power
(laymans terms the ham's can explain this in better terms)
when there are the most viewers. I have seen stations 'only' have a signal during prime time evening. And then in the morning be gone.

Also there will be about 8 channels that never have a signal, until Sunday morning and you now have 8 religous channels and broadcasting load and clear better than the main local channel.

The Spanish channels come in loud and clear no matter where I park!!
One forum ham operator explained why this happens.

My spin on this is with the introduction of cable fewer people are watching reg TV so they conserve when and how they use their broadcasting signal power. They no longer have to broadcast at 110% to reach the most viewers for their sponsors to be happy.
  • The Bat Wing is a good Antenna I have a 1996 Coachman Class C Had no reception at all after a bit of troubleshooting found broken coax Replaced and even in the Low Place where I live I get a Signal. One topic on this forum said it best 99% of Problems with the RV antenna IS CONNECTIONS. if you Need to Move the Location of the Hook Ups a Splitter and a little ingenunity will save a lot of $$$$$
  • I bought the Rayzar to use at home and it was just fair. It needs to be pointed in the direction of the signals despite the claim that it is multi-directional. You need to be able to position it (preferably on a window) to be able to point it in the right direction - which in a motor home (or a house) is not that practical.
  • Your crank-up "Batwing" antenna will give you the most range available. The Sensar (it's real name) can reach out in the 50-60 mile range. The amplified Razar would go somewhere closer to 25-30 miles.
It's unusual to have to replace the head itself unless it has been damaged. If it has painted white "wings" (not alum. colored) and it's not damaged, let me know and you can do a bit of trouble-shooting if you are interested.
