Wireless backup camera replacing wired

I unable to get my wired Zone Defense backup camera repaired. I would like to go with an inexpensive wireless cam and monitor. All of them seem to want to be mounted on the license plate. I want to mount the cam on the bracket that had the old cam attached. I think I can use the 12v existing wiring to have a full time view from the RV cab. Does anyone have any advice ? How to wire ? How to mount ? Any quality cams for small money ? Thanks to all.

Should I post this somewhere else ?? Thanks again.
  • I went the $80 eBay wireless camera route on our 23'. Since I wanted it on almost all of the time, and not just went I plunked it into reverse, power to the camera was the only think I had to solve for.

I ended up wiring up a small power block and running several wires off the rear tailights. That gave me my choice of 12V (always on), reverse on, lights on. Drilling a hole in the sidewall to mount the camera and run the wires was the most stressful.

Wiring up the monitor in the front was easy. There was a big fuse box under the drivers seat. Wires got fished up under the headliner trim. Physically mounting the monitor took some thought. Mine's now up above the sun visor and is not blocking my view.

I know you want to try to reuse the wiring and I'd probably try that first too.

The only disappointment I have is that occasionally the picture interference gets bad. But it seems to clear up on it's own and, frankly, considering I paid 25% the cost, I'm ok with it.
