Wireless camera using Jetpack question

I'm not sure if what I am asking makes sense. But has anyone hooked up a WiFi security camera using a Verizon Jetpack 4620L?? I would like to be able to monitor the camera on my pc at times when I am logged onto my Jetpack, plus have a camera with motion sensor that will take still photos or video and either store them within the camera or on the computer. I'm hoping to find a camera that pans and tilts. If you can figure out what I'm talking about I would be interested in how you did it, plus camera model that allowed you to do it.

Let me try to clear up the usage I would like to have. First off I know next to nothing about the cameras or hooking this whole mess up to function as I hope it can. I would like a camera that has motion control to turn itself on & off that can save pictures to a card or whatever without the Jetpack being on to view later if needed. On the other hand when I am home and the Jetpack is on I would like to be able to monitor a pan and tilt camera. I don't care to view what the camera is seeing at home when I'm not there. If I'm not home there is a 90% chance I have my Jetpack with me so it's not home anyway. I hope this somewhat clears up what I want to do. So I need ideas on a pan & tilt camera that can be outdoors, getting power to the camera is no problem, but to view live pictures at home I don't want wires to fool with in getting it to the computer. ( I have a spare computer to use just to monitor the camera.

I have actually done actually as you are asking. You will need to make sure you configure you MIFI port forwarding for the camera (in order to access it from the computer). It does indeed work.

    Not necessary with a CloudCam.

  • The Jetpack functions pretty much like any other router. It will assign IP addresses to any device connected to it.

We have two TiVos that we've connected to our Verizon MiFi/Jetpack with no problems. A camera with network connectivity should work the same.
  • Hi,

    Need clarification.

Do you want to have a wireless ip camera connected to a WiFi network at home and monitor that camera while you are away from home by connecting to a MiFi device (like the Jetpack)? If so, it's pretty easy.

Or do you want to connect a ip camera to a cellular connection (i.e.; via a Jetpack)? If so, this might be a bit more difficult (though I have never tried it) because of the way IP address are assigned in cellular devices.

    Steve
