Your thoughts on Millenicom...

I've been investigating data plans. While Verizon is on the short list, Millenicom is now showing up as a possibility. From what I know, cost is about the same, there are no contracts and coverage is excellent.

If you are currently using Millenicom or decided against their use, I'd certainly appreciate your thoughts.

Yes, it does. That is the nice thing about Millenicom, they have all the same perks as the carrier, by contract.
  • As a longtime Verizon customer for phone and internet service, Millenicom has been on my radar for a while. Using the internet increasingly for business, I've exceeded $50/mo for 5Gb on numerous occasions and paid the additional $10 for the extra bandwidth. In doing so, I'm close to par with Millenicom's hotspot plan of 20Gb at the flat rate of $69.99. LOL... I could have watched a few movies. Since the general consensus seems to be that the network is the same, with no contract and little upfront costs, I'm going to switch when my current contract expires in a few months. I realize that I'm not going to be able to walk into a Millenicom store, should I have a problem with the device. But, I've only had that happen once with Verizon over the past 8-10 years.

TomG2... Millenicom advises that the coverage area is the same as shown on the Verizon webpage map.
  • I've been a Verizon customer since the late 80's, but once I found Millenicom, I let my Verizon data plan elapse. I chose the "Verizon" data plan from Millenicom since it uses the Verizon network and has the identical coverage. I have a 4G MiFi and I have a 20 GB per month data plan, all for $69.99 per month with NO TAXES, NO CONTRACT, and NO extra feels tossed in. Last time I checked, the Verizon 10 GB data plan was $60.00 per month PLUS tax, fees, etc.

One downside - you have to purchase the MiFi from Millenicom, you cannot use existing equipment for the "Verizon" service. When my MiFi arrived, it still had the Verizon sticker on it. Another downside is that you don't know your exact usage during a month. If I remember correctly, Millenicom will post your usage every Monday, but you don't have any type of real-time usage meters. On the other hand, you can call them, or email them, and they will tell your your usage.

I have been using Millenicom for about a year without any problems. The newer MiFi units that Millenicom uses (and Verizon) can have up to 10 simultaneous devices attached wirelessly. My particular device can have 5 devices attached.

I am currently using VERIZON 3GB MIFI plan under grandfathered contract for only $27 a month. If we were to start up full time wanting more data I would go with the millenicom plan as you say the cost is about the same but there is no contract. Moving away from the Verizon carrier coverage area is not a plan for us.

  • "Cost about the same.....:?"

If you can get Verizon to part with 20 gigs of date for $69.95 a month, please tell us your source and I will go back to Verizon proper. We have been a Millenicom customer for over 4 years and are very satisfied with the way they package the product, the price and their customer service.
  • some of the millenicom plans use the Verizon backbone, some use sprint. at least that was in place when we were millenicom customers. our device used the Verizon network and coverage was excellent. we still have the device and it's our 'Plan C' after the campground's/park's wifi system and using our smart phone as a 'hot spot'.
  • The coverage will be exactly the same as Verizon as they use the Verizon service for their 20GB/month plan. The "unlimited" plan (limited to 50GB/month) is Sprint.
