Millenicom Alternative?

We use the VERIZON 3GB MIFI DATA plan and it provides for our small internet use. This is a yearly subscription plan...

This is billed as a separate item along with our WIRELESS CELLPHONE plan.

This is just used for keeping in touch with the kids, pay some bills on-line, and some surfing of the internet. We have never gone over our 3GB limit. This connects up to five WIFI enabled devices such as our laptops and tablets.

I am grandfathered in form several years back and get a low monthly rate. I think VERIZON has a 5GB MIFI plan for around $60 a month.

I could almost get by with just my smart phone but that would tie up my cellphone just for that...

I was just starting to think the MILLENICOM PLAN was going to be my next thing to play with as we might want to start downstreaming some TV programs but then the sold out to VERIZON a few months ago. I would need at least a 20GB DATA PLAN to start dwonstreaming anything...

ALot of folks like me really talk good about the VERIZON MIFI JET PACK plan - you might check into that...

Depending on WIFI from any strange source was never a good option for me to consider. Alot of folks do just that however...

The Straight Talk hotspot (U240C) available at Walmart uses the Verizon network. Not fast, but the price is hard to beat. Works well for email and simple web browsing.

THANKS to all for your comments. RoyKen, know exactly what you're talking about! Worked at an RV Park in Montana (at the East Gate of Glacier National Park) this summer and saw people fight every day with the slowness of the park internet. Was very glad I had Millenicom.

You can put the Verizon device on vacation up to 2x a year and suspend billing. Check on www.verizonwireless.com
Verizon also has a pay as you go plan.

Mike - The Verizon network is really the best for camping off the power grid... Very few places we have been to where it doesn't work. In my working years that was all we used working on far out NAVY SHore stations. Wifes family is buried in GOBER TX and found the Verizon was not very good there haha... We lived in the Wichita Falls area in the 60s and 70s...

Verizon MIFI is gangbusters up at the Wichita Mtns Wildlife Refuge at Medicine Park (Lawton area) OKLA...

Let us know what you find... I may be wanting to get something to supplement my watching HDTV from the OTA Natl Broadcast Network... Sure like the FREE stuff...

Hi Roy B...thanks for your input! I was very pleased with how Millenicom worked off of Verizon towers. In my trek from the Rio Grande Valley, through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming and then 4 months in Montana I never failed to connect with the Millenicom hotspot. I just don't see a lot of people speaking well of Verizon and I am not sure I want to do any business with them.

Most people assumed that with Verizon acquiring Millenicom that this alternative would disappear. Not the case at all as you can still sign up for Verizon network access at $90 a month for 20GB of data and no contract is needed as when going directly to Verizon.

Millenicom is still very much alive and well and the best data access service you can buy in the United States.

Sorry, but this is not correct ..... If you did not transfer your plan to a "contract" with Verizon by yesterday, the grace period ended and you MUST now go with a pure Verizon plan. They only offered the "no contract $90 plan" for the first week of Nov then they discontinued that offer and all you could get up till yesterday was the 20 Gig plan on a 1 year contract. Millenicom is dead and buried, NOT alive and well. They no longer offer ANY data plan on any network.

I don't know where you got your information but it's incorrect. Verizon did not acquire Millenicom. Verizon refused to negotiate a new contract with Millenicom and in effect put them out of business. Millenicom had to lay off all of it's employees with no notice of termination, and minimum severance pay.
As to being able to still signup for Millenicom service at $89.99, I suggest you go to the Millenicom website and try. When you try to buy a plan you will find it says "NO PLANS AVAILABLE".
