No - it's not using any more gas. It's just trying to get rid of the heat generated by the cooling unit. The fans will run whether the frig is on gas or electric, too.

- Second_ChanceExplorer IIThe fan(s) on the back of evaporative RV friges is (are) thermostatically controlled and will run whenever the temp of the cooling unit reaches a certain level. If the frig is in a slide, the fan(s) will run more than if the frig is not in a slide. This is due to venting straight up in a non-slide frig. What you are describing sounds perfectly normal.
