IMHO, owning a motorhome is a lifestyle choice and rarely an investment that one can recoup financially. One can recoup their investment emotionally though. We choose to vacation in our RV these days. We enjoy national parks, miles of amazing coastline, and quality family time. Our RV makes those things more accessible and far more comfortable than the tent camping we used to love but that was a ton of work to plan and execute. We vacation more frequently than we used to as well and we spend less on vacations (not counting the cost of the RV ouch) but that's more destination based. Think Disney for a week in a hotel vs. a national park at $22 a night.
Now the longer you own and the more often you use your RV, perhaps recouping your cost is eventually possible. So many factors. All that said, for us weekend warriors, I don't see buying an RV as a wise investment strategy from a financial perspective. For most, an RV is a luxury item.
