We all do it. Try to justify our hobbies. But we are confusing investment with costs of competing alternatives. Even in the example above the depreciation is not included. You cannot say a hotel costs x and a campground is y. There absolutly is a real cost in that depreciation. Just because you do not sell your rv after every trip and realize the loss in value doesnt mean it is not there.
