Someone should have thought about this...
My understanding is that the original game was created by farmers that had a little free time. They took a piece of burlap bag and put a handful of corn in it. They then competed throwing the "corn bag" through a hole in a board. Thus the name of the game "Corn in the Hole", shortened to "Corn Hole". The official and correct corn bags still use corn, most commercial bags use plastic pellets instead of corn. - edmontoncamperExplorer
