I installed a 60 gallon RDS aux tank within a month of purchasing my new truck. One of the best upgrades I have ever done.
Contrary to what those who don't have one will say, to me it has nothing to do with NEEDING to stop for fuel. Or, really even saving $ (although it does that(. To me the biggest thing is it allows me to stop when and where I want to stop. And that is avoiding nasty truck stops, and tight local fuel stations. Drive ALL day long, get to where you are going, drop the trailer, and fill up if you need to. Or wait until the next day.
The other thing to me is it saves time during trips. I am a weekend warrior. We often go 200 + miles one way for a weekend. I figure stopping for fuel costs me at least 20 - 30 minutes by the time I figure where I am going to stop, turn off my fridge, get into the station, have my wife walk the dogs, pull out of the station, stop to restart the fridge, get back on the highway and back up to speed. So, if don't have to fill up on the weekend, that gives me 30 more minutes at my destination. 30 minutes doesn't seem like much, until you figure 6 or 8 trips a year, over several years.
When I get my next truck, several years down the road, an aux tank will be a guaranteed addition.
