Awning operation

The 15 foot sunline Im interested in has an Awning. You can see the big roll on top and 2 fairly large poles. The top connected to both awning ends going down with the bottom of the poles connected to the camper. I asked if it works and he said it didn't know. He tried pulling on it but it was real tight and didn't come.(don't you crank these? How do I tell him it works so he can try it and send me a pic? Is there a handle connected right on it somehow? or a separate handle maybe he doesn't have? Where is the location on the awning the turn handle would be connected at so he can find it? Can he substitute something else for a handle if he doesn't have it?

WHO did you ask? Surly NOT a salesman, and surely not the owner. I would have a hard time buying from a person that didn't know how to use his camper. What else didn't he know how to do? Gotta wonder what shape the camper is in.

Same for a salesman. If he is. Dosen't seem to know the fron of the camper from the back.
X-2 This would bother me as well, if he doesn't know how to use the awning, I'm not buying squat from him. :S
  • In campgrounds, I've encountered people who did not know how to deploy their manual RV awnings. Not all of them new owners. Most knew how to get started, but had not remembered what they had been taught about the rafters, so would get stuck with it partly out.

If a seller doesn't know how to use the awning, might not be their RV that they are selling?

  • On the right end of the roller tube there is a locking cam. Not easy to explain from here. Maybe you can go to a RV dealership and ask if someone could show you how to unlock it.
  • You can buy new fabric for about $150. If you have the arms and the roller. The only other thing is a spring and those are easy to find. Tell him to nock off another 300 because the awning doesn't work. Then you have a 50/50 chance. Of saving 300 or new awning fabric.
