Awnings and rain

If I had to take it down every night, or every time I left the CG. I wouldn't put it out at all. Contrary to popular belief. The awning will take some pretty good wind with no problems.

Ahh, for the good ole days! That was me a few years ago. Now that I have a power awning, I just keep it rolled up.

Yes, a power awning on a new TT would be a deal breaker. they would have to replace it with a manual.

Our Electric awning has an auto dump feature, however, ours is pitched so water just runs off it. Our seasonal site is across from a farm in South Jersey usually with a breeze going all day long. Our site is on the end closest to the farm. We bought a set of Camco awning tie downs so we could keep the awning out all the time without worry.

We had a Macroburst storm roll through here a couple weeks ago with winds up to 85 mph. The NWS alerts never mentioned high winds, just thunderstorms and flash flooding so I left the awning out. We had trees fall all around us, but the awning stayed put. The wind stressed the heck out of the springs that came with the tie downs to the point that can't be used anymore, but they saved the awning. I wouldn't have left the awning out if I was warned of the high winds.

I put deflappers on my awning (two on each side) and then keep it tilted to one side when storming. In twenty years of camping I have only rolled it up for storms maybe a half dozen times and they were storms that I seriously thought about waiting out in a bath house due to the straight line winds and tornado warnings.

Love sitting underneath in the rain. Did that a lot in Tennessee and left it down, but the water runs off naturally or I have not ever leveled it off completely.

Isn't that why you have an awning? To keep rain or sun off your back?

Even with lowering one end on the awning I am afraid of wind that too often is the rain friend. I seen personally what wind does to the awning.

So the rules I used.
1. roll it up at night
2. roll it up when you not there
3. roll it up when it looks like it will be raining soon.
4. if it windy and moving the awning too much roll it up.

We much prefer the electric awning over the manual one. Either works fine, but it is much easier with the electric.

I put the de-flappers on if it's windy and if it is still moving around too much, I roll it up. Sometimes I roll it up at night but I have also gotten up in the middle of the night to roll the awning up. I would rather roll it up before bed time than get up later.

Definitely leave it up if it's just raining, that's what it's for.

Continued flapping could start tearing the end up on the trailer. With the rain just lower one side, preferably the side that the ground is sloping to so the water doesn't run back into your site. I do the same to keep the wind from getting underneath it. Ours was out 24 hours a day for 60 days while in FL. Rain and some moderate wind. If I expected some really strong winds I would have rolled it up.
