Do you really mean, you had not yet signed the purchase order, and were waiting for the wife to approve the deal? before you signed? And how long was the wait for your wife? They (CW) would have no idea if it was a done deal or not, as your wife may have put a stop to the whole thing. So in CW's mind it was not really sold to you
In the mean time, sounds like they had a customer with hard cash and took the sure thing. I agree they should have said to the other party, "we think that unit is sold, we will know in a few hours" But they did not, so kind of you snooze you lose.
In my experience, it usually works out, when a deal like this falls through. When it has happened to me, without exception, it has turned out at the end of the day I am glad it did. Have always found something better, and been gratefull the first deal fell through
