Hello all.Does anyone have direct experience with parking a 33 ft RV on a grassy area next to a driveway and if so, what is the best material to use over the grass and under the wheels?Is it 1/4 or 1/2 plywood, cut to a dimension greater than the tire? Or is something else better to distribute the weight of the RV over the grass. The driveway is not wide enough to park the RV and get our cars in and out of the garage.Any and all thoughts, suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated!Thanks all!G Man

What would you park your car on if you parked it on the grass over the winter?Unless you have very hard parked soil under the wheels, the boards need to be somewhat larger than the wheels to prevent it from sinking into the grass.Bill

I would purchase a couple rubber horse stall mats and cut them to fit. You can get them at most tractor supply or farm supply stores. I use them for jack pads and leveling blocks.

Thanks guys. Larger boards is a great idea. The cars will be inside the garage, the RV parked on grass next to the garage. The grass is hard packed but I like the idea of big boards.And rubber mats is a good idea too!Thanks again!

We bought a 2 x 12 board, had Lowe's cut it in half to make two 6' boards. We are on the grass on the side of the garage.

Make sure you wait to move it until the frost is out of the ground and it is drying up from spring rains. If not, you will end up buried in mud like we did our first spring. Ground looked ok, but as soon as motorhome moved, grass gone and gushy slimy mud right under the surface. Yuk - hope to never repeat that experience.

I have 5 12"x12" patio bricks that run parallel.

dug down a few inches and laid some gravel and set them on top of that. nice and solid.

parking (storing) with tires on wood, rail road ties, as well as plain old ground never appealed to me. to easy to trap moisture and attarc bugs that like living in that environment. (earwigs)

If you are trying to protect your tires from moisture, a material that does not absorb water is best. If you are trying to prevent the tires from sinking into the wet grass any material like wood , concrete, metal will work. I used 3/4 nylon 12"x 12" for the front and 12"x 24" for the rear tires, that act as a moisture barrier to preserve the rubber and also distribute the load so the tires don't sink into the grass.

I used 2x12 pressure treated lumber for a few years until I finally had a concrete parking pad poured. Worked great. I ran the boards the full length from the concrete driveway to the wheels. That way I could back out without ever leaving the board.

Go to a local scrap yard and look for some expanded metal catwalks.
Scrape out a inch of turf and lay them down. The grass will grow thru them and you will be able to mow right over them.

Been parking the camper & other trailers on the grass for over 30 years often the wheels on 2 x 10s. One trailer is a 1980 one is a 1994, one is a 2007. no abnormal rust or other issues. Do have problems moving the camper if there has been rain recently.

I bought my first MH this past summer, and I put down 2-3 inches of gravel over landscaping cloth. My rig is parked with the passenger side wheels on the side of the driveway with most of the rig over the new gravel area. The soil under the gravel was very packed.

Ours is parked on a gravel pad but I like the 1/2 inch plywood idea but 1 inch would be better.
