Black tank chemicals

I recently bought a Springdale 296 BHSSR. I was told to add chemicals and a couple of gallons of water to the blank tank after dumping. Given the floor plan, I can't access the bathroom with the slide in and don't have an external connection to add water and chemicals to the black tank. Has anyone added an external access point? My other option is to extend the slide, but just seemed like an extra step.

OR install a back flush kit on your black tank.

The reason you want to add a few gallons back into tank after dumping is so bottom of tank stays wet and the few gallons will slosh around as you drive.........sloshing/wet helps keep any stuff from sticking and drying out.

OR just have some one stand by.......open slide out/flush toilet bowl of water down into tank while you are dumping grey tank

What OB said. You can add water externally with lots of devices, including the ones he posted. Bottom line is you always want to have a few gallons of water in your black tank, ie, you never want it to dry out. Chemicals are up to you. The wife uses a blue powder in packets from Thetford.

This and I bet you don't have to slide it all the way out either to access the bathroom.

x2..... never add anything except water
  • Probably not any any easier...but I guess you could climb up on the roof and add them through the vent stack....
    (I know, I know...but just a thought even if it is a weak one....:S
  • Ditto what K Charles says.....we never use chemicals.. Face it, those chemicals will end up in our "EARTH"......most dump stations are septic tanks (at least where we've been) and I cringe that the chemicals will go down to the ground water "some day".....

  • Can you extend the slide part way out? Do you have to slide it out all the way to get to the bathroom?

What type of chemicals do you use? We use an organic(bacteria, enzyme) chemical in our black tank. I don 't remember the name of it. 2scoops and there is no odour at all.
