bleach and pink anti freeze

FYI I haven't been on this forum in a while, but I thought I would share something that I just found out after 6+ years of camping. I use a little bleach in my fresh water tank and lines to keep it from molding or getting bacteria. not a lot just a little with plenty of water.
Well I guess I didn't rinse it out good enough before I winterized with the pink rv antifreeze.... To make a long story short, the bleach will take the pink out of the antifreeze and make it look like fresh water. I used a couple extra gallons of antifreeze before the light bulb went on over my head.
  • that is interesting!
But, I don't use the anti-freeze, except in the toilet and drains.
I also only put the bleach in the tank in the spring to sanitize the system. After that, it just gets filled with water from the well.
  • We didn't put anti freeze in the fresh water tank either.

Years ago we put bleach in our TC tank to give it a clean but we haven't done it in our new TT yet and may not.
  • I have never noticed this with any of my rvs when using treated city water ( treated with chlorine) you may be using a stronger formula than you realize.
  • I don't think the bleach is doing much good. It breaks down pretty quick when diluted and won't protect the water lines from algae over the whole season.
I would wan't to sanitize it at the beginning of the season.
  • Did you remove your water filter before you put in the antifreeze? It will also trap all the pink. DAMHIK.
  • I never place anti-freeze in any part of the fresh water system.
