I've owned several boats and one RV. My wife hates boats, and so do my dogs, so it's an RV for us. We do still rent boats every couple of years when we go to Lake Powell. This year we will be dragging the trailer over there and shore camping. We will also have a rental ski boat.
By the way, there are more different kinds of boats and different things to do with them than there are with RVs. To be a boat person you will have to narrow your focus to one of them. For example you will have a completely different experience with a small sailboat than you would with a large powerboat. With an RV camping is pretty much camping.
