How about you just leave it alone while driving rather than learn the rules of 48 states and all the local jurisdictionz...?
I guess you didn't read his first sentence.
This forum is a place where people can bring questions, especially when new to RVing. The first answers were very helpful. But I think it was uncalled for to scold a complete stranger and imply he drinks while driving.
I did read his first sentence, then I replied to his whole question. I never once SCOLDED him. If I said its morally reprehensible to possess alcohol, that would be scolding.
I simply told him that each and every state has different laws and definitions. Furthermore, local jurisdictions can have more stringent rules themselves. One jurisdiction might say that the table of a moving vehicle is a passenger compartment because the seats have seat belts, therefore illegal. The next city over might say that the dining table is a house, not a vehicle, therefore its legal.
To alleviate any of those issues, I suggested simply leaving alcohol alone while driving. Don't drink it, don't hold it, don't possess an open container (bottle of wine in a cupboard is vastly different than an open Bud in the passengers cup holder) while driving around. OP asked for suggestions and indicated that he cannot find a CLEAR CUT answer for all the states in the contiguous US. As a police officer myself, I gave a succinct answer to his question.
Follow my suggestion, ZERO problems with alcohol in the RV while driving. If you consider that scolding... I don't know how to respond to you. Oh yea... what part of my response implied that he was a drunk driver...?
