Correct. In my jurisdiction you can carry sealed containers anywhere in the car. Open containers that have a way to be closed (twist bottle cap or cork for example) can be transported but in a manner that is not accessible. Again, due to the vagueness of laws there is grey area there. Is an open 40 oz bottle "accessible" to the driver in the back seat? That's open for debate. What if its in the cargo area of an SUV with people in the backseat?
There isn't a hard and fast rule against it that consistently applies all across the US.
