Our first long trip (this winter), we decided to go as simple (read: cheap) as possible. We're not towing, renting from Enterprise when we need to shop. We have Verizon service and a hotspot for internet access, but we use the park WiFi whenever it's good to cut down on the data charges. When we get park cable we use it to watch our favorite shows, most of which are also on OTA digital signal. If not and we're in range of a major market, we raise the Wingman and make do.
So far, we haven't been without TV or internet. However, we do not stream movies or do HuLu or online movies. Most park WiFis, even if they are capable of enough bandwidth, will throttle individual IPs hogging the air.
Will we hit a spot where we can't get cable, OTA or internet? Probably. Is that enough reason to shell out a few thousand bucks for satellite TV? Nah. I'll just watch the Canadians try to aim their antenna.
